Ground-fault circuit interrupters cut power in milliseconds when current leaks where it shouldn't. Every outlet installation we do in wet areas includes one. Here's where they belong.
Required locations
- Kitchen countertops and within 6 feet of any sink
- Bathrooms
- Garages and unfinished basements
- Laundry areas
- Outdoors, including the deck and the porch
- Crawl spaces and boathouses
Testing
Press Test monthly; the outlet should click off. Press Reset. If nothing happens or it won't reset, the device has failed and needs replacement.
Why a GFCI keeps tripping
Moisture in an exterior box, a failing appliance, a damaged cord, or too many downstream outlets on one GFCI. Our electrical repair team traces it quickly.
Older homes
Two-prong ungrounded outlets in Pawtucket, Woonsocket and West Warwick homes can be legally replaced with GFCI outlets labelled No Equipment Ground, or we can run a proper ground.
